ADMINISTRATION & SUPPORT STAFF COMPENSATION SURVEY
Vencon Research International’s annual compensation survey of Administration & Support Staff within the Management Consulting sector provides benchmark data on range of salary and benefits offered to their non-consulting staff by the major international and national management consulting firms across numerous markets throughout the World.

The recruitment standards and performance expectations of the leading management consulting firms extend beyond each firm’s consulting professionals, and are usually reflected in the quality of the firm’s support and administration staff. Furthermore, there are a number of roles key to the effective operation of a consulting firm that have no parallel outside the sector – research, graphics, translation and travel specialists, for example. Consequently, this survey was initially conducted in response to client requests, as they felt general market data failed to reflect either the scope or the upper-quartile nature of the consulting industry’s support staffs.

REPORT CONTENT
The Administration & Support Staff Survey includes presents comprehensive benchmarking data on the base and total cash compensation for more than 60 discrete roles across a dozen functional areas. A general summary of benefits available, following the same structure as for the ‘Consultant Benefits Survey’ is also included.
Each report provides detail of the cash compensation for up to ten consulting firms in the relevant country, providing per-firm data on both range and typical value of base salary, expected bonus and theoretical bonus potential.
The findings are presented in table and graphical form, consolidating range, mean and variance data for each position and function. In addition, the raw data are fully tabulated and included at the end of the report.
By including original source data on a line-per-firm basis, Vencon Research International reports enable clients to undertake their own further analysis. Rather than presenting aggregated distribution curves, often skewed by the weighting of the largest players, clients can work with the raw data, facilitating targeted comparisons rather than a predetermined percentile within a distribution curve, and can identify anomalous data points which might otherwise distort the data-set.
The most recent Vencon surveys for Administration & Support Staff cover roles within the following functions:
  • Office Services - including Reception, Consultant and Partners’ PAs and Office Management
  • Desk-top Publishing and Graphics
  • Project Staffing
  • Editing and Translation
  • Information, Library and Research
  • Professional Recruitment
  • HR
  • Marketing/PR
  • Finance & Accounting
  • IT Support
  • Legal & Commercial
  • Industry experts
For most functions, at least 4 hierarchical levels are included, from entry level staff through to function manager, plus the function head where appropriate. The precise number and title of positions surveyed is reviewed and amended each year in conjunction with participating clients, to ensure the report remains entirely relevant to client needs.

REPORTS DESIGNED FOR AND BY MANAGEMENT CONSULTANTS
The precise content of the Vencon Administration & Support Staff Surveys has been developed over time to meet the distinctive requirements of the management consulting sector. In addition to the base and total salary data each report includes further data and analyses on:
  • Actual and anticipated salary movement for the current and coming year
  • Percentage distribution of staff by function, per firm
  • Extent and nature of ‘job overlap’, where this occurs
  • Educational requirements for entry positions, per function and per firm
  • Typical working hours (and, if appropriate, overtime provision) per function and per firm.
  • Vacation days per firm
  • A general summary of the benefits package offered, per firm

In addition, an analysis is conducted on a sample of positions deemed to be consistent and directly comparable across all participating firms, to determine each firm’s relative pay positioning.
The reports are issued annually, with data collected during the first quarter of the year, to enable the reports to be compiled and issued by the end of June each year.
